Hello comic con fans! We’re pleased to announce the events on our main stage at #CapCity2018. The main stage is located in section 115 on the concourse level.
11:00 am: Borderless Panels: Indigenous and LatinX Comics (Dr. Frederick Luis Aldama; Dr. Elizabeth LaPensée, Dr. Lee Francis)
Indigenous and LatinX self-determination in comics is on the rise. In a panel session during the Convention, these three artists and authors will share their journeys in independent and academic publishing and offer insights into pathways for self-expression in sequential art. They will also be available throughout the day at their booth (In section 135), sponsored by Native Realities, for discussion about their work in these areas.
12:00 pm: Self-Publishing: Special Guest Dirk Manning, Author Brian Donihue, and Artist Michael Boursaw
How do authors and artists get started in publishing? How do you manage your brand? Led by Horror Author Dirk Manning, this panel will discuss how to get started in the business, how to self-publish your work, and getting your work seen (and read)!
1:00 pm: Cosplay Creations: Special Guest Alexis Noriega, Great Wolf Cosplay, and the 501st Legion’s Kevin Johnson
Led by Special Guest Alexis Noriega, these panelists will discuss how they got started in cosplay, and how they make the AMAZING creations that allow them to cosplay like champions! Grey Wolf Cosplay (aka Brittany), currently serves as the Vice President of the League of Enchantment, and tolerates Dominik Valentin.
2:00 pm: Children’s Cosplay Contest
See all the amazing creativity that kids bring to cosplay! Judged by Jerry Jodloski (of How-To Halloween) and Capital City Wonder Woman! Make sure to review information and rules before arrival, and sign up to participate by 1:30pm at the League of Enchantment booth in Section 117.
2:30 pm: Teen/Adult’s Cosplay Contest
3:00pm: MSU Scholarship Award
Con Chair Christina DeJong will present the 2018 Scholarship in Comic Art to Mary Mitchell. Make sure to purchase her commemorative poster (all proceeds go to the scholarship fund!) and find her in section 106 for a signature.
3:30pm: Audio Air Force
EXTRA! EXTRA! The Audio Air Force will present two iconic comic book characters as they made the move from the printed page to network radio in the 30’s and 40’s. Featured will be an episode of “Little Orphan Annie” which first appeared on radio in 1938, and an episode of “Superman” from 1948. Each of the episodes will be from the original radio script. This will be performed live on stage with the actors, live music and live sound effects, just as it was done in a studio during a live radio broadcast.
